Leaving
Tomorrow, I will drive for three to four hours to get to Girl Scout camp. I'm looking forward to my week of sleep-away camp very much. Last year was my first year of sleep-away camp, and I loved it. I went with a friend last year, and I am going with her again this year. She just so happens to be the same friend as the one who took me to a pirate ship with her younger sister's Girl Scout troop. Since I will be at camp, I will not be able to post anything next week, but I will definitely have a lot to say the week after next.
Soccer
Today in 100 degree weather, I played in a soccer game. My team won 3-0. That's not the point of this post, though. I want to talk about the feeling I got from playing soccer. Of course, this feeling was soon replaced by thirst and overheating. While I had the feeling, I felt so great. The feeling is kind of hard to describe. I think it had something to do with the fact that I was a part of a team. I think I am a big fan of being part of a team. I knew that my team could back me up and I knew that my team was counting me and everyone else on the team to be the best they can. Anyway, it was a great feeling, and I was sad when it went away and in its place came thirst and overheating. Does anyone else get a great feeling like this?

The Cat is Out of the Bag
It's official. A lot of my friends know about my blog now. I guess it feels reassuring that I know people will be reading this now, but it felt nice having a secret place to write stuff. I might put more thought into what I write, but I probably won't put any more thought in than originally. This will definitely be different, that's for sure. I hope everyone is satisfied or relieved that I let this secret out before the planned date, the end of summer. Have fun reading my old posts!

Pronunciations
Pronunciations are tricky things. I say ukulele rather than yukuhlele. I don't know which is right, but I know I've heard more people say yukuhlele for the word ukulele. Another example of tricky pronunciations is for the word egg. I say egg, but I know a plethora of people who say aig. It bothers me, but then I remember how I don't like being corrected for ukulele, so I let them have all the aigs they want in the conversation. I know two people who say munster rather than monster, and I know a few people who say pin rather then pen. I guess it must just be the accents of the area they grew up, but my dad has lost his New England accent after living in the area we do not for many years. What are some pronunciation disputes you have?

Sea Weed
I recently took a trip to a harbor in Maine. I was visiting some family friends, and I started having fun with sea weed with a boy one year older than me. He is of the imaginative sort, so I am constantly being entertained by his antics. Here is the entire story of the sea weed buisness.
We started pulling "spaghetti sea weed" off rocks and piling it on the sandy beach. Over time, we learned what color the ripe, easy to pull off strips were. The pile kept on getting larger and larger, and so did the sea weed story. Our ancestors, in the story we created, discovered the magic of sea weed. They were the first harvesters, the business starters. They passed the business down, but when it got to our generation, we did not want the bulky business on our shoulders. We handed it off to trusted family and friends, but stayed the harvesters. We had technicians, chemists, scientists, psychologists, every specialist there is out there finding out new ways to make use of the bountiful sea weed. Sea weed eating utensils. Sea weed bio fuel and energy. Sea weed medicine. Sea weed technology. It was an amazing story, and I am sorry to say a lot of the story is escaping me at the moment. The boy I was with is very imaginative and creative, and so am I, so we had no trouble building up the business and ways to use the sea weed. Sea weed was as essential as coal is to West Virginia. There was never an end to the supply because we started making genetically altered sea weed that grew faster and larger. There was no stopping us. We had so much momentum with the ideas, the story, the make-believe business. Nothing could stop us, but lunch. We went to eat lunch, and I had to leave soon after. I am disappointed we didn't get to escalate the creativity any more.
Everyone remember! July 8th is Sea Weed Day in honor of the valiant efforts of the boy and me!

Should We Celebrate the 3rd?
Here's a little history lesson. On July 4, 1776, Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence. According to the colonies, they were no longer under the rule of Britain. On September 3, 1783, the Treaty of Paris was signed and Britain recognized the United States as a separate country, not just colonies. Everyone celebrates the 4th of July, but I think the real day to celebrate is the 3rd of September because that is the day Britain finally broke down and freed the colonies. Thoughts?

Army Men
I have taken a liking to plastic, green army men recently. Especially since I am at the beach. It is so fun to just carve battle scenes out of sand. I spent hours upon hours making a river using a hose and having army men fighting around it today. The sandy landscape of the beach is perfect for projects like that. I'll be sad when I have to go back to my house and play with the army men in the grass and dirt.
Is it really that hard to believe a girl likes army men??

Fireworks
I can't stand fireworks. They are usually boring, but always loud. Of course, it isn't good to be so negative, so let me say this. Everyone else loves them. That's all that matters, right? In a perfect world, yes. Here, absolutely not.

The Beach
A beach is a beach, no matter how small.
Right now, I'm at my grandpa's little beach. I won't give out the location. It's a small beach, but we don't have to share it with any tourists. When we come here, we see my grandpa, my step-grandma (I guess that's what she is), and my two half uncles. My older half uncle, who is now 14, is very good at digging. I guess I'm his apprentice because I don't care for my younger brother's and my younger half uncle's shenanigans. MY brother is 10 and my other half uncle is 9. I am 12, so I am in the middle of everyone. Today we hooked a hose up and we made a stream from the soft, white sand to the river with well water. It was fun making mounds for the stream to go around. Hopefully tomorrow will be as fun as today.
I think someone is throwing rocks at my window... I wish I could see out my window, but it's too dark to see the darkness outside. It's not like looking into a lit window from a dark room. (That's how I know my neighbors have an iPad.)
